During this year’s Earthshot Prize ceremony in Cape Town, South Africa, on November 6, Robert Irwin discussed his relationship with Prince William.
Five category winners receive one million pounds in financing to assist scale up their ideas to benefit the earth and its inhabitants. The awards were established in 2020 by the charity William’s Royal Foundation.
In addition to becoming a presenter at the 2023 event in Singapore, the wildlife warrior—the son of the late “Crocodile Hunter”—has been honored to join Hollywood actor Nomzamo Mbatha as the first Global Ambassador for the Earthshot Prize.
Robert Irwin and his then-girlfriend Rorie Buckey, who was the niece of the late Australian actor Heath Ledger, went to the event in 2023.
In addition to walking the green carpet, Irwin was pictured shaking hands and even laughing with the future King. Robert talked praised Prince William in an interview with PEOPLE in November 2023, calling the monarch “a real beacon to everyone in the conservation field.”
Given Robert’s commitment to protecting wildlife, it is only fitting that he serves as an Earthshot ambassador and advocate.
Robert Irwin and his life
Actor, zookeeper, wildlife photographer, television personality, and conservationist Robert Clarence Irwin hails from Australia. He is Steve Irwin’s son, and fans frequently observe that he and his late father are alike.
Irwin is the host of Irwin’s Real Life Adventures, a show on the internal television network of his family zoo. He co-created the book series Robert Irwin: Dinosaur Hunter and co-hosted the television show Wild But True on the Discovery Kids Channel.
Robert Irwin works at the Australia Zoo, where he participates in the same activities as his late father, including feeding the zoo’s animals, handling snakes, and battling crocodiles. Irwin and Nomzamo Mbatha were named the inaugural Earthshot Prize Global Ambassadors in September 2024.
