Recorder Nicola Makanjuola sentenced the two, stating that their crimes endangered UK borders and that the severity of the punishments was “heavy” in order to discourage similar crimes in the future.
Despite the lack of proof on the extent of the pair’s financial gain, she stated that she was certain the “one-off incident” was for commercial advantage.
The judge went on to say that the two dads had had the proceedings “hanging over their heads for six years,” which was one of the reasons she had lowered the punishments from four years in prison. Half of their sentence will be served in jail, and the other half will be served under license.
