Celebrating Christmas With 8 Kids, Mercedes Lynn Explains Her Experience

A mother is telling on TikTok how she and her family “do not do Santa Claus” and how she manages Christmas with her eight kids.

Mercedes Lynn begins her film, which has received over 490,000 views, with the statement, “On Christmas Eve, each of our kids gets to open four presents.” “They receive two presents that are simply enjoyable items — either a game, a toy, or something enjoyable that they desired,” in addition to one new book and one new dress.

Mercedes Lynn’s Shares Her Reactions

They get to open their stockings on Christmas Day, and there will be a tiny piece of wrapping paper at the below.

The approach was designed to “help keep things fair and not chaotic,” according to Lynn, who grew up doing the wrapping paper in the stocking section.

Few parents can successfully plan a holiday event for eight kids, but it appears that the main criticism of Lynn’s strategy is that Santa Claus isn’t there.

One user comments, “You lost me at no Santa,” while another adds, “My kids loved the magic of Santa!!!”
Mercedes Lynn explains that since many of her children’s classmates’ families “feel similar to how we do,” knowing Santa Claus isn’t real is also not gossip for her children to share with their peers.

Lynn refers to each child’s one Christmas morning present as their “special” gift, but she makes it clear in the film that “that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s their most expensive one.”

In the video, she adds, “It’s just something that means the most to them or something that they really, really wanted, you know, trying to make it special.”

“My kids really look forward to the stockings and one ‘big’ present on Christmas morning,” Mercedes Lynn tells PEOPLE, describing the custom as a “fun tradition” for her family.
