Influencer Caroline Calloway gained notoriety after she announced that she intended to remain in her Sarasota, Florida seaside house despite Hurricane Milton’s warnings.
The 32-year-old influencer is adamant that she would stay at her beachside Florida house during Hurricane Milton, even if she is required to evacuate.
Calloway went so far as to say that her region was considered a “mandatory evacuation zone” in an Instagram Stories post that was published on Tuesday, October 8.
Caroline Calloway’s Admirers reactions regarding her decision
Although Calloway’s safety has drawn a lot of attention on social media from admirers and followers, the 32-year-old author of Scammer tells PEOPLE that she has no intentions to move. As a matter of fact, she asserts that her virtual community needs not be as concerned as they might believe.
Calloway claimed in her first Instagram Stories that her experience fleeing a hurricane was “very traumatic,” which is why she is currently reluctant to obey the National Weather Service’s advice. She believes she “ended up worse off” when she escaped to her mother’s house farther inland during Hurricane Ian in 2022.
Caroline Calloway mentions the reasons on social media
In addition, Caroline Calloway stated on social media that she is unable to drive and that airports are closed. She does, however, include an additional justification: the author want to be accessible to assist her elderly neighbors, many of whom were close friends of her grandmother who already occupied the building before Calloway.
Calloway argues that staying is the correct choice for her because of her mother’s building’s relative safety, the well-being of her older neighbors, and her incapacity to get around.
“There are a few more sort of able-bodied young people who are staying to help, but I’m definitely the youngest and the most able-bodied among them,” she told folks. “Even with my missing kneecaps.” “I doubt that even two of those three arguments would have been sufficient to persuade me.
Calloway’s Instagram Stories post went viral, but it hasn’t stopped her from creating more content as the hurricane approaches landfall and eventually approaches Florida’s western coast, where it is predicted to have disastrous—and possibly fatal—effects.
